Wenonah, New Jersey

The Borough of Wenonah, Gloucester County New Jersey was founded in 1871 as a planned resort community on the banks of the Mantua Creek and along the West Jersey Railroad which bisected the new town. On a long narrow lot of land adjacent to the still active rail line, formerly used for railroad sidings and loading of trains, Wenonah proposed to build its new Town Hall.

Given the narrow site and surrounding buildings with Italianate details and deep bracketed roof eaves characteristic of late 19th century railroad towns, Ragan Design Group chose to model the new Town Hall on its surroundings and neighboring buildings to embrace the railroad rather than ignoring it. Decorative details on the new Town Hall recall the Wenonah train station just to the north.
