Presented with a vacant lot on an early 20th century residential street, we worked with our clients to develop a house design that fits their lifestyle, allows for aging in place, that outwardly fits its place.

Too often, new houses in “townscapes” are suburban house types made to fit a narrow lot, usually with a garage being the most prominent feature and few windows on the sides of the house. Our clients decided that a car under cover at the “kitchen door” was all the shelter they needed for day to day entrances and exits. Thus a generous front porch is the welcoming feature of this house as it is with most of its neighbors in this part of town. We placed a row of windows with high sills on the side of the house to allow daylight and views of the sky and trees while still maintaining some visual privacy.
